Primula denticulata

Primula deorum

Some primulas spend the winter as conspicuous resting buds. The bud-scales are modified leaves that protect the bud during the winter. Some primulas are evergreen. A few of the   outer leaves die, but the majority stay green in winter.

Primula fasciculata

Primula longipes

Other primulas show no sign of a resting bud but appear through the dead leaves of last year. Many primulas are heavily covered in farina when they emerge from the ground.
