P. glabra sits at the center of a group of related species: P. genestieriana, P. kongboensis and P. pseudoglabra. Some authorities keep all as distinct species, other authorities have them all as subspecies of P. glabra and others as a combination. Authorities also differ in the Section. P. genestieriana has only 1-3 flowers and comes from E Tibet, NW Yunnan and N Myanmar. P. pseudoglabra is disjunct, coming from NW Sichuan. P. kongboensis is dwarf (2-5cm) and comes from E Tibet. All of these species differ slightly in the bracts, pedicels and leaves so detailed images of these are critical to identification. Images displayed are from Bhutan, SE Tibet (Tsari), NW Sichuan and Arunachal Pradesh.
