Type specimen: Cavalerie 4602 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024269) and Paris (specimens P00649665, P00649620) and KEW (specimen K000750178).

P. kweichouensis subsp. (var.) venulosa : C.M.Hu, Fl. Reipubl. Popularis Sin. 59(2): 290, 63 (1990). Type specimen: P. Q. Tsoong 486 resides at Institute of Botany, Chinese Acadamy of Sciences, Beijing.
P. kweichouensis var. guangxiensis: D.Fang, J. Trop. Subtrop. Bot. 6(1): 51 (1998). Type specimen: Pan Baoqiang 3-5206 resides at Guangxi Institute of Traditional Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nanning.
P. kweichouensis: W.W.Sm., Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 16: 33, 1928. nomen.

Epithet: Named for the province of Kweichow (Guizhou)
Distribution: Guizhou, China.

Originally associated with section Obconicolisteri (in particular P. barbicalyx), this species is now placed in section Carolinella. An efarinose, hairy species, leaves 1.5-6cm long, obovate to elliptic, apex rounded, base broadly cuneate to rounded, margin subentire to remotely denticulate and ciliate, glabrous or slightly puberulous above, reddish hairs on the veins below, petiole 5-25mm with reddish hairs. Scape 2-3.5cm pilose, with 2-3 rose flowers. Capsule operculate. P. kweichouensis subsp venulosa differs in the leaves more densely hairy, margin ciliate, petioles slender and longer than leaf blade. P. kweichouensis var. guangxiensis differs from var. venulosa in dried leaves subcoriaceous, glabrous below, margin 6-16 somewhat toothed.
