Holotype specimen: W.B. Ju J-1247 resides at CDBI (specimen CDBI0309739).
Epithet: Named for Xide county, Sichuan where the type specimen was collected..
Distribution: Sichuan, China.
P. xideensis is described in comparison to P. stenocalyx, P. farinosa and P. pulchella but differing by several characters in combination including: roots covered in multicellular hairs; leaves with dentate to irregularly deeply dentate margins, both surfaces efarinose, densely short-hairy and scabrous; corolla mouth densely white-farinose; pin flowers with stamens inserted about the middle of the corolla tube and styles adjacent to the corolla throat, thrum flowers with stamens positioned near the corolla throat and styles inserted about the middle of the corolla tube; and an oblong capsule shorter than the calyx. The paper includes phylogenetic analyses to place P. xideensis within sect. Aleuritia.
