Compared with P. zhengyii and P. obconica subsp. obconica but distinguished by its scape which mostly creeps along the ground and rooting at the nodes with bracts to propagate. Compared to P. obconica subsp obconica the corolla tube of P. weimingii is slightly longer than the calyx (1.5-2 x the calyx), calyx narrowly campanulate (cup-shaped to broadly campanulate) and the calyx lobes triangular with acute apex (broadly triangular with hydathode-apiculate apex). Grows in very damp soil covered in moss in the understory of humid forests and so far only known from Yuanyang Guanyinshan Provincial Nature Reserve, Yunnan.
