A little known dwarf species, described from specimens collected at Suring, Kumaon (Uttarakhand). Recently found in Nepal. P. sulphurea is distinguished from P. drummondiana and P. cunninghamii by the thick, persistent yellow farina on the underside of the leaves. Leaves are obovate or spatulate to 6cm long, base attenuate, apex rounded, margin erose-denticulate and recurved when young, midvein and nerves impressed on the upper surface. Petioles winged, to 2cm on older leaves, indistinct on younger leaves. Scape generally obsolete (sometimes present and up to 16mm), 4-50 heterostylous, pink flowers on wiry pedicels with corolla lobes deeply emarginate. Capsule unknown.
