Primula hoffmanniana was described from a duplicate specimen of Limpricht's 1327 collection at Kew. This collection, along with Limpricht's 1278 and 1456 were described as P. petiolaris var. setschwanica, however 1278 is not referable to P. hoffmanniana. Plant is efarinose generally, but can have sparce farina on the leaves and calyx, flowers are annulate, scape obsolete, forms thin stolons at the end of which new plants develop. P. hoffmanniana was initially collected at Wenchuan shan, Sichuan.
