Type specimen: Przewalski s.n. 1880 Hoangho, Gansu resides at LE (LE01013890, isotype LE01013891) and PE (specimen 00027741).

Primula citrina Balf.f. & Purdom, Type specimen: Purdom 739 resides at K (specimen K000750081) and E (specimen E00024129).
Primula flava subsp. citrina (Balf.f. & Purdom) W.W.Sm. & Forrest

Epithet: Named for the yellow flowers.
Distribution: S & W Gansu, E Qinghai, N Sichuan.

Distinguished from other members of the Section by the yellow flowers. Leaves petiolate, broadly ovate to elliptic , sometimes suborbicular, rounded at the apex, margin serrate-dentate, densely covered below with white farina. Scapes 2-10cm with 2-13 yellow, exannulate flowers. Bracts lanceolate, swollen at the base, but sometimes pouched. See related P. stenocalyx and P. pulchella. Also compare with yellow flowered P. qinghaiensis.
