Type specimen: W.B.Ju J01397 resides at CDBI (specimen CDBI0298288). isotypes KUN, PE.

Epithet: Named for Daguan county, Yunnan, China where the type specimen was collected.
Distribution: Yunnan, China.

Primula daguanensis belongs to section Petiolares, subsection Davidii based on its conspicuous bud scales, which are membranous and persistent at anthesis, and its coriaceous, efarinose leaves. The phylogenetic study shows that it is in a clade within section Petiolares (of the 6 species they tested) and is sister to P. tridentifera. It is compared morphologically to P. epilosa, P. tridentifera and P. bergenioides but distinguished by having efarinose leaves with undulate-dentate margins, adaxial surface smooth; abaxial reticulate veins incospicuous; lateral veins 5-7 pairs; petiole 1.0-4.5 cm; calyx parted to 1/3 into broadly triangular lobes, corolla annulate with lobes truncate and dentate that the apex.
