The type specimen of this species is from Long-ki (Longtaicun), Yunnan in bamboo thickets. Flowers are rose with a white eye, annulate, on very sparsely pubescent pedicels. The calyx is parted to the middle into oblong lobes with red resinous dots scattered at the margin. This species is distinguished from P. lacerata and P. veitchiana by having emarginate corolla lobes, entire or sinuous, rather than fimbriate lobes.
