Type specimen: Pételot 2945, 5092 resides at P (specimens P00649642, P00649643, P00082963, P00082964, P04571807) and NY (specimen NY00329561, NY00329562) and GH (specimen 00062456).

P. huana W.W.Sm., Type specimen: Tsai 51854 resides at GH (specimen 00073546) and E (specimen E00024084) and PE (specimen 00027755, 00027743, 00027742).

Epithet: Named for Mt. Cha-pa (Fansipan or Phan Xi Păng), Vietnam where it was first collected.
Distribution: Vietnam and Yunnan, China.

Found at Mt Fansipan, Vietnam and also at Maguan Shan, Yunnan, less than 100kms to the NE. This species is efarinous, with a rhizome showing the scars of previous leaves and scapes. Leaves are few (1-2 per plant), ovate to elliptic-ovate, base cordate, apex short acuminate, margin regularly denticulate, glabrous or somewhat scurfy underneath. Scapes and pedicels are covered in rust-colored articulate hairs, more dense at the apex and base, with 8-28 pale violet or rose flowers in an abbreviated raceme. Calyx 10-12 mm long, glandular pubescent outside. Compare with related species P. cardioeides and P. partschiana.
