Type specimen: Forrest 20138 resides at E (specimen E00024124) and K (specimen K000750083) and BM (specimen BM000996914) and P (specimen P004571648).

P. caldaria var. nana W.W.Sm. & Forrest (syn.), Type specimen: Forrest 20140 resides at E (specimen E00024125) and K (specimen K000750084) and P (specimen P004571647).

Epithet: Named for its habitat near hot springs.
Distribution: E Tibet, NW Yunnan.

P. caldaria is variable in size, with dwarf plants found at higher elevations intially called P. caldaria var. nana. This species is stoloniferous with stolons 5-20 cm long. Leaves oblanceolate, to 25cm long in robust plants or to 3.5 cm long in smaller plants, with a winged petiole that equals or exceeds the blade, rounded at the apex, margin bluntly and irregularly denticulate in the upper half, with thick white farina underneath. Scape 10-50 cm, farinose near the apex, with 20-30 annulate, heteromorphic, white or lilac flowers. See related species P. erratica.
