Type specimen: Y. Y. Geng 94-003 resides at IBSC.

Epithet: Comparatively large and dark green leaves that look like those of a Bergenia.
Distribution: Sichuan, China.

Primula bergenioides is distinguished from related species P. hylobia and P. klaveriana by its glabrous leaves and scapes and by its calyx splitting to 1/3. Furthermore it is distinguished from P. klaveriana by heteromorphic flowers. Compare with related species P. daguanensis. This efarinose species has brown basal bud scales, oblong-elliptic leaves with a very short winged petiole, covered in minute hairs when just unfolding otherwise glabrous. Flowers in an umbel of 5-11, pale purple - blue, heteromorphic, exannulate. Described from Emei Shan, Sichuan.
