Type specimen: Zhikun WU, ZKWu2020053 resides at KUN.

Epithet: Named for the Chinese Pinyin "yanbian", the name of the county in SW China where the type specimen was collected.
Distribution: Sichuan, China.

Primula yanbianensis belongs to section Cortusoides based on its campanulate calyx morphology, lack of farina, covered in multicellular hairs, distinct petiole, leaf blade suborbicular to reniform, lobed margin, base cordate to deeply cordate. It is compared to P. longipilosa, P. neurocalyx and P. sinomollis but distinguished by having a scape shorter than the leaves, umbel in whorls of 1-2, broadly ovate bracts and rose to pink petals which are distinctly veined.
