Type specimen: Waddell 34, 78 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimens E00024524, E00024525) and KEW (specimen K000750277).
Epithet: Named for Laurence Austine Waddell.
Distribution: Tibet, Bhutan.
P. waddellii is distinguished by mats of less than 1 cm , leaves minutely glandular, and a skeletal flower shape with hairs in the throat. Grows in peaty turf. See related P. tenuiloba which looks similar but is hairy on the outside of the flower. See also P. stirtoniana.
