P. verticillata grows on wet, north facing, limestone cliffs in Saudia Arabia and Yemen. It is farinose, and differs from related species by having longer and narrower leaves, narrower bracts, a calyx cut to the base and a longer corolla-tube. See P. simensis which is a disjunct, heavily farinous species found in Ethiopia and maybe considered a subspecies of P. verticillata. P. verticillata crosses with P. floribunda and P. edelbergii.
