Type specimen: cult. from seeds of Cooper 2134 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024753).

P. umbratilis var. alba: Fletcher, J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 52:332. 1942. Type specimen: Ludlow & Sherriff 3384 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimens E00024754, E00024755, E00024756) and US National Herbarium (specimen US00116522) and British Museum (specimen BM000997021). A white variant.

Distribution: Bhutan

Endemic to Bhutan, this species is distinguished by a hairy scape, and glabrous bracts and calyces. The leaves are oblong to subelliptic, rounded at the apex, narrowed into a winged petiole, margin dentate-lobulate and with articulate hairs on both sides. The corolla is funnel shaped and usually pale purple. The last three images represent P. umbratilis var. alba. See related P. buryana.
