Type specimen: Sichuan Economic Plant Exped. 1303 (17 V 1959) resides at Sichuan University, Jianghong Ran, Chengdu, Sichuan and isotype? at Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing (specimen 00205637).

Epithet: Named for the tridentate apex of the calyx lobes.
Distribution: Yunnan, Sichuan, China.

Similar to P. epilosa and P. fagosa but with smaller flowers and with calyx lobes shorter and having a tridentate apex. Leaves obovate to obovate-oblong, petiole nearly obsolete, margin dentate-lobulate, apex rounded, bullate. Described as densely white farinose under the leaves? Scapes to 12cm, glandular with an umbel of 5-9 purple flowers. Calyx campanulate, sparsely glandular, parted to 1/3 into ovate to ovate-oblong lobes, three toothed at the apex.
