Type specimen: Strachey & Winterbottom 15, 1848, Gyanama, Kumaon (lectotype) resides at KEW (specimen K000750296) and Botanic Garden Meise (specimen BR0000005297245).

P. tanupoda (syn): Balf.f. & W.W.Sm., Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh. 9: 48. 1915. Type specimen: Inayat 24647b resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimens E00024473, E00024474) and Kew?.

Epithet: Named for Tibet.
Distribution: Tibet, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sikkim.

A small (to 13cm) efarinose species often found on the Tibet side of the Himalayan range but extending into Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan. Similar to P. nutans but with a different bracts and a short scape compared to the length of the pedicels. Leaves ovate to elliptic or spathulate, to 3cm long, glabrous, apex rounded or obtuse, base cuneate to subrounded tapering into the winged petiole, margin entire. Scapes variable, sometimes hidden in the leaves, shorter than the pedicels, with umbels of 1-10 rose to lilac flowers with a yellow eye. Bracts 4-10mm, narrowly oblong to lanceolate, saccate or shortly auricled. See related species P. nutans, P. fasciculata, P. pumilio.
