Epithet: Named for the Latin "tardiore" referring to the later blooming period.
Distribution: Sichuan, China

Originally considered a subspecies of P. ovalifolia, this species is endemic to the high altitiudes of Emei Shan (2000-2500m). It is distinguished from P. ovalifolia by the attenuate leaf base, sparsely pubescent veins and a later blooming time. However, genetic analysis of P. ovalifolia, including P. tardiflora shows this species is genetically close to the population of P. ovalifolia from Emei Shan, suggesting that species status may not be warrented.
