Similar to P. munroi but distinguished by distribution, glabrous sepal, truncate or acute leaf base and shorter scape to at most 3 times the leaves and cylindrical calyx and capsule. It shares the characters with P. munroi in being glabrous, efarinose, ovate leaves and lanceolate bracts base prolonged into an auriculate appendage. Molecular phylogenetic analysis confirms it's close relationship to P. munroi but also confirms that it is distinct. It is only found in the Shennongjia Forest District, Hubei, China.
