Initial collecitions of P. stuartii were made at Gossain Than, now called Shishapangma in South Tibet and included purple flowered P. macrophylla mixed in. P. stuartii forms a large, farinous resting bud. The leaves are sharply toothed along the edge and yellow farinous below. The plant reaches 20-30cm and has usually one, rarely two umbels of yellow flowers. Hybridizes with P. macrophylla var moorcroftiana which is shown in the last three images.
