Section Monocarpicae
Type specimen: Y. Xu 140014 resides at IBSC, Guangdong, Guangzhou, China.

A species similar to and compared with P. lithophila which grows in the same area (sometimes side-by-side) and P. cavaleriei. It differs from P. lithophila by having a globose, not cylindrical capsule and by smaller flowers with a calyx split almost to the base. It differs from P. cavaleriei by the calyx and shorter petioles. P. persimilis, a very tomentose species belonging to Section Monocarpicae, also grows in the same area but it is quite distinct from P. scopulicola. An efarinose species, leaves suborbicular, cordate base, with a distinct, hairy petiole, a few hairs above and along the nerves below. Scapes to 19cm, with usually 2 umbels of pinkish purple exannulate flowers, with a broadly campanulate calyx, pilose on the outside and split near to the base. Originally found in the area of Xuyong county (Shuiwei Xian) in Sichuan but also found across the border into Guizhou.
