Closely related to P. cortusoides and sometimes included as a synonym of it. P. saxatilis grows among rocks in the Russian far East (Primorsky Krai), North Korea and possibily some provinces of China. The distinction between the two species is the vey long pedicels producing a looser umbel in P. saxatilis and the different habitat. Plants labelled under both species are common in cultivation and only wild specimens should be compared to avoid confusion. The name P. saxatilis var. pubescens is a synonym of P. polyneura. A hairy species, efarinose, petiole distinct, leaves oblong to ovate-oblong, cordate base, margin incised-lobate, sparsely pubescent above and pilose below especially on the veins. Scape pilose, to 25cm, with 1-2 umbels of 3-15 rosy-purple flowers on slender pedicels 2-4cm.
