Type specimen: cult. from seeds of Ludlow & Sherriff 2796 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimens E00024744, E00024745, E00024746) and syntypes (see protolog) at the British Museum (specimens BM000996886, BM000996887, BM000996888).

Epithet: Named for Mr. Frederick D. Stewart Sandeman.
Distribution: Tibet, Arunachal Pradesh

Although this species was identified as possibly new from wild collections, the species was described from cultivated plants. Only known from the area of Migyitun, Tsari but this area is infrequently explored and it may exist elsewhere. Similar to P. wattii and P. chasmophila. but with a farinose scape and farinose, blue-purple, widely funnel-shaped flowers. Leaves elliptic to oblanceolate, rounded at the apex, sometimes margin slightly dentate-lobulate, efarinose but covered on both surfaces with white hairs.
