Type specimens: Volgunov s.n., 22 Aug 1936 and 2 &4 July 1937 resides at Leningrad. Image of type resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024021).

Epithet: Named for the kidney shaped leaves.
Distribution: Russia, W Caucasus, Dombai Mts

Endemic to NW Caucasus (Teberda Valley). Efarinose with leaves pubescent beneath and flowers of blue-violet.
