Type specimen: Duthie 3133 resides at Kew herbarium (specimen K000750438) and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh herbarium (specimen E00024742).
P. reidii var. williamsii : Ludlow, Roy. Hort. Soc. 80:428. 1955. Type specimen: Stainton, Skyes & Williams 1770 resides at British Museum (specimen BM000521888) and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh herbarium (specimen E00024743). Additional specimens from protologue at Paris (P04544730, P04544731).
Epithet: Named for Mr. Reid.
Distribution: Kashmir through to Kumaon and W Nepal.
P. reidii is a high alpine species similar to P. wigramiana but distinguished from the later by the annulate corolla and the emarginate, but not toothed, corolla lobes. P. reidii var williamsii is a larger plant from West-Central Nepal. The variety was collected as a blue-flowered plant but the color can vary from white to blue as can the species, so that it is difficult to distinguished the two.
