Type specimen: D.S.Lou & Z.C.Zou 800102 resides at IBSC.

Epithet: Named for the type locality being in Qinghai Province.
Distribution: Qinghai, China.

Primula qinghaiensis was originally collected at Nangqian Xian, Qinghai. It is closely related to P. flava but differs in the broadly ovate or reiniform-ovate leaves, somewhat wider in length and with a deeply incised margin. Leaves are densely white fainose below, becoming less so with age. Scapes 9-25cm., glandular pubescent with 3-12 yellow, heteromorphic and emarginate flowers. Calyx farinose, campanulate, parted below middle into lanceolate, glandular ciliolate lobes.
