A species very similar to and compared with P. tsiangii but differing by having exannulate white flowers (or very pale pink), longer calyx lobes, parted almost to the middle, longer pedicels and cylindrical capsules. To verify that this species is distinct, specimens of P. tsiangii were recollected from the type location at Tongzi in northern Guizhou. P. scopulicola, another recently described species belonging to Section Monocarpicae, grows in the same area (in fact the two type specimens have sequential collection numbers). An efarinose species, leaves suborbicular, cordate base, crenate-undulate margin, with a distinct, hairy petiole, a few hairs above and especially along the nerves below. Scapes to 23cm, with usually 1 umbel but sometimes up to 3 umbels of white exannulate flowers, with a narrowly campanulate calyx, pilose on the outside and split to the middle.
