This species resembles members of Section Cortusoides in the leaves and has the distinctive calyx of Section Obconicolisteri where it is placed. It is closely related to P. dumicola but has larger heterostylous flowers and denticulate calyx lobes. This is a hairy perennial, with one (or sometimes two) umbels of deep rose colored flowers. The calyx is broadly campanulate, covered outside in long hairs and the globose capsule is nestled within.
