Type specimen: Henry 5584 resides at Paris (specimen P04567321) and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and KEW.

P. fargesii (syn): Franchet, J. Bot. (Morot) 9:452. 1895. Type specimen: Farges 1062 resides at Paris (specimen P04588084, P04588079, P04588083, P04588085, P04588084, P05250296) and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024150) and New York Botanic Garden (specimen 00329539, 00329540) and KEW (specimen K000750115, K000750116).

Epithet: Named for the nodding flowers.
Distribution: Guizhou, E and SW Sichuan, Yunnan

Very similar to P. yunnanensis, this species is distinguished by its nodding, bell shaped, pink flowers. The leaves are bullate, usually denticulate in the upper half and covered below with yellow farina.
