Type specimens: Kingdon-Ward 6901, 7536, 7042 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimens E00024401, E00531117, E00531116).

Epithet: Named for the dark teeth of the calyx.
Distribution: N. Myanmar (Burma), NW Yunnan, China.

Compared to P. serratifolia in the original description (that species was found growing near to this one but at a higher altitude) with similar flowers though not bicolored and with smaller, thicker leaves with a distinct toothed margin. The species is efarinose, scape to 25cm with usually one but sometimes a second whorl of campanulate flowers. The calyx is angled, cut to the middle into pointed purple teeth. Also compared to P. prenantha / P. morsheadiana. If you have an image of this species, please contact the webmaster.
