This species was initially compared with P. laciniata, which it resembles by having similarily cut leaves and so it was placed in Section Aleuritia. Since then it is thought that it should be placed in Section Crystallophlomis, but this may require further study. This species lacks basal buds scales at flowering, leaves oblanceolate tapering to a winged petiole and pinnately lobed almost to the midvein with the lobes incised-dentate. Scapes efarinose, to 15cm, with 4-7 rose to purple flowers with oblong, entire (or with 2-4 teeth) lobes. Calyx is campulate, parted to just below the middle into lanceolate lobes, white farinose inside and on the margin.
