Type specimen: Holotype Ludlow, Sherriff and Elliot 13607 resides at BM (specimen BM000996894) and isotype at E (specimen E00024427).

Epithet: Named for the lax (loose) inflorescence.
Distribution: Tibet, China.

This species is similar to P. atrodentata but distinguished by a lax inflorescence with distinct pedicels of 2-5mm (in P. atrodentata the pedicels are obsolete). From P. denticulata it is distinguished by the absence of basal scales. The leaves are 2-4cm including a broadly winged, very short or obsolete petiole, apex rounded, margin subentire or crenate-dentate, farinose below when young, covered with hairs above and especially on the veins below. Scape is 4-10cm, farinose at the apex. Bracts, pedicels and calyx farinose. Flowers usually 2-6 per scape, corolla pale violet, lobes deeply emarginate, exannulate, heteromorphic. Tube 2x the calyx, reddish on the outside and yellow inside.
