Type specimen: S. P. Ko 53981 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024606) and Guangxi Institute of Botany (specimen 00028572) and Lushan Botanical Garden (specimen 00118115).

Epithet: Named for the old name for Guangdong (Kwangtung).
Distribution: Guangdong, China.

Originally associated with section Obconicolisteri, this species is now placed in section Carolinella. An efarinose, hairy species with leaves 5-11.5cm long, broadly obovate to elliptic, rounded or slightly emarginate at the apex, broadly cuneate or rounded at the base, margin entire to irregularly denticulate, upper surface pubescent on midvein becoming glabrous, lower surface covered with reddish hairs on on veins, petiole shorter than blade (0.5-3cm). Scapes 3-12cm, reddish hairy 1-2 whorls of 3-9 rose or purplish-blue flowers on reddish hairy pedicels. Should have a calyptrate casule, but I have no documentation for this characteristic.
