Primula interjacens is similar to P. cavaleriei but distinguished by being farinose, with firmer textured leaves, longer petioles, larger calyx and larger corolla. It also resembles P. pellucida but is distinguished by being farinose and with a pilose calyx. Originally named P. chingtungensis by Chen, and some herbarium sheets are marked with this name. Found in the area near Bingbucun, Jingdong, Yunnan. The paper by Xue et al. 2004 "High Genetic Diversity in a Rare, Narrowly Endemic Primrose Species: Primula interjacens by ISSR Analysis" concluded that P. interjacens var. epilosa was not distinct from P. interjacens var. interjacens.
