Type specimen: M. E. Jones 5312av resides at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, Claremont, California.

P. americana (syn): Rydb., Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 28: 500. 1901. Type specimen: Rydberg 2746 resides at New York Botanic Garden (specimens 329509 (holotype), 658883).
P. farinosa L. subsp. incana ( M.E.Jones )(syn): W.W.Sm. & Forrest, Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 16: 24. 1928.
P. farinosa L. var. incana ( M.E.Jones )(syn): Fernald, Rhodora 9: 16. 1907.

Epithet: Named for the white farina covering the plant.
Distribution: Canada (AB, BC, MN, ON, NWT, SK, YK), USA (AK, CO, ID, MO, ND, UT, WY).

Heavily covered in white farina, especially when young, this species is found in alkaline soil in wet meadows and floodplains. The lavender flowers are homostylous. Very similar to Primula stricta (less farina, shorter scape, coastal) and P. laurentiana (more eastern distribution). Sometimes found growing with P. alcalina in Idaho & Montana.
