P. hookeri has a wide distribution from Yunnan through to Nepal. Flowers are usually white though they can be bluish violet in SE Tibet and are then deemed P. hookeri var. violacea. Scape obsolete at flowering, but to 30cm in fruit. Leaves develop a petiole at fruiting and leaf edges vary. Homostylous. P. bomiensis (only found at Bomi / Pome) is similar but has purple heterostylous flowers on short scapes.
