Primula hoffmanniana was described from a duplicate specimen of Limpricht's 1327 collection at Kew. This collection, along with Limpricht's 1278 and 1456 were described as P. petiolaris var setschwanica, but 1278 is probably not referable to P. hoffmanniana. Plant is efarinose, flowers are annulate, scape obsolete, sports thin rhizomes. P. hoffmanniana was initially collected at Wenchuan shan, Sichuan.
