First collected in West Sichuan (formerly considered a part of Tibet), this species is closely related to P. geraniifolia though the leaf lobules and teeth are more or less acute in P. geraniifolia and rounded in P. heucherifolia. This species has a shortly creeping rhizome. Leaves orbicular, deeply cordate at the base, palmately 7-11 lobed with the lobules ovate and irregularly and bluntly dentate, sparsely pilose above and thickly pilose along the veins below. Petiole with dense multicellualr hairs. Bracts linear-lanceolate. Calyx parted to middle or below, tinged purple brown, puberulous and with a few long hairs on the outside, and with one prominent main vein and 2 lateral veins. Scape to 30cm with one umbel of 3-10 mauve-pink to deep purple exannulate flowers, often with variously colored concentric rings at the throat.
