Type specimen: Przewalski s.n. 1880 Hoangho, Gansu resides at V. L. Komarov Botanical Institute, Saint Petersburg and Chinese Acadamey of Sciences, Beijing (specimen 00027741).

P. citrina (syn):Balf.f. & Purdom, Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 9: 12. 1915. Type specimen: Purdom 739 resides at KEW (specimen K000750081) and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024129). More robust.

Epithet: Named for the yellow flowers.
Distribution: Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan.

Distinguished from other members of the Section by the yellow flowers. Leaves petiolate, broadly ovate to elliptic , sometimes suborbicular, rounded at the apex, margin serrate-dentate, densely covered below with white farina. Scapes 2-10cm with 2-13 yellow, exannulate flowers. Bracts lanceolate, swollen at the base, but sometimes pouched. See related P. stenocalyx, P. pulchella.
