Primula fistulosa was first collected in the mid 1800's from moist meadows in river valleys of Amur, Manchuria and Mongolia. Its distribution extends into Heilongjiang and Nei Mongol. Leaves oblong or oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse at the apex and tapering into a broadly winged petiole, margin irregularly denticulate, efarinose, to 12cm long, 1.5cm wide. The scape is thick, fistular, slightly farinose at the apex, to 20cm high (47cm in fruit), bearing a spherical umbel of 5-40 rose-violet, emarginate, annulate, heterostylous flowers.
