Type specimen: G.P. Yang 384 resides at IBSC.

Epithet: Named for the Chinese taxonomist Prof. F. H. Chen.
Distribution: Xiao Liang Shan, Chu Xiong Xian, Yunnan, China.

Originally discovered in the herbarium, this species is similar to P. petelotii, but is distinguished by its very short flowering scape, longer pedicels and tube twice the length of the calyx. Only known from the type area.
