Type specimen: Cult. from Cooper 3828 resides at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen not scanned).

P. denticulata Sm. subsp. erythrocarpa (Craib) (syn): W.W.Sm. & Forrest, J. Roy. Hort. Soc. 54:29 1929.

Epithet: Named for the red capsule apex.
Distribution: Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, China, S Tibet.

A small species resembling P. atrodentata and small forms of P. denticulata. It is mostly efarinose, evergreen, lacking basal bud scales at flowering. Leaves are oblong-spathulate to oblong- elliptic, tapering at the base, ciliate and denticulate at the margin, rounded apex, covered above in white hairs which may disappear as the leaves mature and below with tawny septate hairs. Scape is 10-35cm, farinose at the apex with a head of blue-violet flowers an orange eye. The seed collection Cooper 3828 was collected near Paro, Bhutan. It is found at lower elevations than P. atrodentata. Primula laxiuscula is sometimes given as a synonym, but I haven't seen the type of P. erythrocarpa, so I reserve judgment.
