This species was first described in an article about P. dubernardiana and was used for a grouping of collections which did not fit with P. dubernardiana. Also described was P. coelata stenophylla which is a synoynm for P. henrici. P. coelata was thought to be just a manuscript name and was considered invalid, but the description in this article satisfies the requiremenst set out in the 'International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants'. A study by Eveleigh, Nielsen & Rankin showed that this species is distinct though it is possible that further collections in Muli may show some intermediates with P. rockii. This species is subshrubby with woody stems densely packed with the dried leaves from many years growth near the apex and leaf scars below. It is mat forming, grows on limestone rocks, efarinose, with a few (1-5) pink flowers per scape. The leaves vary between winter (smaller with shorter petioles and a cuneate to attenuate base) and summer (longer petioles with a cuneate to rounded base), are covered in glandular hairs, usually ovate-oblong with a crenate to lobulate margin.
