Type specimen: S. Yuan YS489 resides at South China Botanical Garden.

Epithet: Named for Professor Chi-Ming Hu.
Distribution: Pengzhou City, Sichuan, China.

Similar to P. odontocalyx in that it lacks farina and hairs, basal scales are absent at anthesis and occasionally the calyx is toothed. Distinguished by the calyx which is as long as or slightly longer than the corolla tube, parted to 2/3 into lanceolate lobes, and with leaves which have recurved teeth on the margin.
