Primula chienii W.P.Fang

Section Petiolares
Link to Flora of China description
Type specimen: Chien 5831 resides at SZ and E (specimen E000246291).

Primula chienii is described as endemic to Qingcheng Mountain, Dujiangyan (old name Guanxian), Sichuan though It seems also to be found at Bifengxia. It blooms early (starting in February) and grows on damp mossy, rocky slopes under mixed forest at 900m-1000m. Compared with P. leptophylla in the original description but unlike that species the budcsales are not persistent, the leaves are glabrous and the scape is shorter. Often this species is included under section Davidii, but seems better placed under section Petiolares. Flowers are pink, often with a protruding annulus at the eye.
