Type specimen: Pételot 2945, 5092 resides at Paris (specimens P00649642, P00649643, P00082963, P00082964, P04571807) and NY Botanic Garden (specimen NY00329561, NY00329562) and Harvard (specimen 00062456).

P. huana (syn): W. W. Smith, Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh. 19: 170. 1936. Type specimen: Tsai 51854 resides at Harvard (specimen 00073546) and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (specimen E00024084) and CVH (specimen 00027755, 00027743, 00027742).
Additional specimen: Hao Gang 663 resides at Paris (specimen P05250358). Yunnan collection.

Epithet: Named for Mt. Cha-pa (Fansipan orPhan Xi Păng), Vietnam where it was first collected.
Distribution: Vietnam and Yunnan, China

Found at Mt Fansipan, Vietnam and also at Maguan Shan, Yunnan, less than 100kms to the NE. This species is efarinous, with a rhizome showing the scars of previous leaves and scapes. Scapes and pedicels are covered in articulate hairs, and there may be up to 28 pale violet flowers per stem. Leaves are few (1-2 per plant), and ovate-cordate with an acute apex.
