The original collection was made by Delavay at Hee-gni-chao (Heinishao) on the Heqing-Eryuan divide. Subsequent collections made in Muli have also been identified as this species. P. cernua has leaves broadly obovate to oblanceolate, shortly attenuate into a nearly obsolete petiole (sometimes to 1/2 as long as the blade), margin entire to crenulate and ciliate, rounded at the apex, covered in multicellular white hairs, especially on the veins. Scape subglabrous, minutely glandular, white farinose at the apex. Flowers deep purplish-blue, arranged in a spike, glandular on the outside, tube 8-12mm gradually widening into the limb, lobes slightly emarginate to nearly entire.
