A stunning species with exceptionally large (to 4cm in diameter), exannulate, bell-shaped, purple-rose flowers usually held in 2-3 whorls. The base of the plant is circled with imbricate farinose bud scales. Leaves are oblong-lanceolate with membranously winged petiole, acute apex, denticulate margin and covered below with farina. The capsule is cylindric, 2x the calyx and opens at the top by valves. Compare with P. calliantha and P. agleniana.
